A man lost his life just outside of Tuskegee (February 12, 2021) when his Chevrolet Astro Van hit a tree after leaving the road. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 80 near mile marker 167 at 5:06pm, according to reports.

Complex Accident Investigations
It may surprise most people to learn that a large number of motor vehicle accident investigations are complex. There are several reasons that the collection of evidence may prove difficult. Every accident is different because there are multiple factors to consider. There are also different types of investigations, carried out by various agencies.
Law enforcement, insurances companies and independent investigators are just some examples of agencies or individuals who may play a role in any particular accident investigation. All of these parties have a vested interest in gathering evidence that supports the case of their client. Additionally, opposing investigators will seek to achieve the same goal, which typically results in the concerned parties reaching different conclusions.
When the question of liability is in dispute, there is a chance that plaintiffs may not recover compensation. This is because Alabama is a Contributory Negligence state, which means if you are found liable for the accident by even 1%, it can result in effectively losing out. The question of liability is often determined in the course of investigations, when evidence is presented to a jury.
Investigation Considerations
The nature of an accident will usually dictate what kind of evidence investigators want to discover. For instance, in a car accident, the speed the vehicles were traveling at the point of collision is important. Skid marks on the road can also provide evidence of how the accident happened. It is also important to consider that many modern vehicles have onboard computers that record a driver’s actions prior to a collision.
Witnesses to an accident may also factor into an investigation. The involved parties are also witnesses to the accident. Any reports given to law enforcement or other emergency service personnel may affect the outcome of a compensation claim. Therefore, if you feel like you were the victim in a motor vehicle accident, you will want witnesses on your side of the argument.
The psychology, medical health and potential intoxication of all parties involved in an accident are also important aspects of an investigation. A good example of this is if a driver was under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other intoxicating substance. Alternatively, a driver may lose control of a vehicle due to being overtired or falling asleep at the wheel.
Consulting a Vehicle Accident Attorney in Alabama
Given the potential complexity of a motor vehicle accident investigation, consulting with an experienced attorney is recommended. There are so many possible outcomes, even when a case seems simple. The guidance and representation that your personal injury lawyer can provide may become invaluable in proving that the defendant was liable in your accident.
There are negotiations and discussions involved in a civil law case that can steer the course of proceedings. As an individual, you may jeopardize any right to compensation by discussing your accident with an insurance representative or investigator. These are tasks that should be left to your legal counsel.
