Failure to Yield Accidents in Calera
In 2015, failure to yield was the leading cause of vehicle collisions in Alabama, as reported by the Alabama Department of Transportation. During that single year, the state saw more than 21,600 car accidents caused by failing to yield the right-of-way, 85 of which were fatal.
A driver’s statutory right to make a turn or proceed through an intersection is referred to as their right-of-way. Alabama driving law has an entire article devoted to the right-of-way and what happens when another driver fails to recognize it.
A common traffic violation, failure to yield is mainly punished by the obligatory payment of administrative fines and fees. Repeated infractions could lead to the eventual suspension of your Alabama driver’s license. The most likely and worrying outcome of a failure to yield accident, however, is a serious or fatal injury crash for which the offending driver will most likely be held liable.
