Mobile, AL – Terrel Thomas and Brianna Baxter Killed on I-65
Mobile, AL (December 07, 2020) – Local law enforcement officers responded to the scene of an accident involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer on Monday, December 7th.
Initial reports state that the collision took place at about 11:20 a.m., in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 between Government Boulevard and Airport Boulevard.
When they reported to the crash site, officers found that both of the SUV’s occupants, 21-year-old Brianna Baxter, a resident of Summerdale, and 26-year-old Terrel Thomas, a resident of Mobile, were both dead due to injuries they received during the crash.
Officers on the scene stated that one of the victims had been ejected from the vehicle and the other was trapped inside. They declined to specify which was which.
The tractor-trailer operator was unharmed during the incident.
A preliminary investigation showed that the tractor-trailer had been having mechanical difficulties, which prompted the driver to pull off onto the shoulder of the interstate. For reasons that have yet to be determined, it was on this stretch of interstate that the SUV left the roadway and crashed into the back of the disabled truck, and became stuck underneath the trailer.
Eyewitnesses to the accident said they had noticed the tractor-trailer pulled onto the shoulder of the interstate since about 9:30 a.m. and that there were no emergency flares or reflectors around the vehicle.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim (Use the name of the victim if we have it) at this time.
